Death

StiPP has arranged pension benefits for your dependants in a number of situations. It depends on a number of factors. For example, whether you die before or after your retirement date. And whether you die during your job as a temporary worker or seconded employee.
You can read more about this here.

What arrangements are there if you die?

If you die before your retirement date

Your accrued pension capital until 1 January 2026 will be used to purchase a dependant’s pension. If you have a partner and children below the age of 18 on 1 January 2026, this accrued pension capital will be divided between your partner and your children.

If you are still accruing pension in the StiPP Pension Scheme when you die, your partner and children below the age of 25 will receive an additional benefit under StiPP risk cover. You are automatically insured for this. The StiPP risk cover for dependants pension will end when you are no longer working as a temporary worker or seconded employee.

If you die after your retirement date

On your retirement date you decide whether to include a dependant’s pension for your partner and children. Your partner will receive this pension after your death as long as your partner is still living. Children will receive this pension until the age of 25. If you do not include dependant's pension, your own pension will be higher.

Please note: When you apply for your retirement pension, you have two options:

  • To purchase retirement pension only from your accrued pension capital
  • or to purchase retirement pension with dependant’s pension

If you decide to buy retirement pension only, your partner and children will not receive any dependant's pension if you die.

Contact with your dependants

  • If you live and die in the Netherlands
StiPP will contact your dependants. The municipality will automatically notify StiPP of your death. There is nothing your dependants need to do.

  • If you live and die abroad
Your dependants must contact StiPP themselves.
You can do this using our contact form. Or call us on 030 277 56 90.

Lump-sum payment

If the dependant’s pension is less than €632.63 per year (2026), StiPP will pay the amount to your dependants as a lump-sum.
