When does StiPP consider you to be a dependant?

Your partner accrued pension benefits in the Basic Plan and

  • you are married
  • you have a registered partnership

Your partner accrued pension benefits in the Plus Plan and

  • you are married
  • you have a registered partnership
  • you are officially cohabiting and at the time your partner dies you have been living with your partner at the same address for a minimum of six months
If you are not yet registered as a partner? send us a copy of your cohabitation contract.

Any children below the age of 18 are also dependants.

If you started a relationship after your partner’s retirement, you have no entitlement to dependant’s pension.

The most recent Uniform Pension Statement shows you in which scheme your partner accrued pension benefits.

Your partner dies before his/her retirement

A dependant’s pension is purchased with the pension capital your partner has accrued.

If there are any children below the age of 18, the accrued pension capital is divided between you and the children.

If your partner was still accruing pension benefits in the StiPP Plus Plan when he/she died, you will receive an additional payment under StiPP life cover. The partner is automatically insured for this.

Your partner dies after his/her retirement

On their retirement date your partner and you together decide whether to include a dependant’s pension for you. You will receive this pension after the death of your partner for the rest of your life.

Please note: If you and your partner decide to buy retirement pension only, you will not receive any partner's pension if your partner dies.

If there are any children below the age of 18, and your partner decided to have a partner's pension, they will receive 14% of the retirement pension that your partner received monthly.
