Going into retirement

Going into retirement is a special time. It is when you make choices about your (monthly) income when you are in retirement. We are happy to help you with this.

TO DO on this page

  • Advise desired retirement date
  • View and update details in Mijn StiPP Pensioen
  • Apply for DigiD

What options do you have when you retire?

State pension (AOW) age

This is the age at which you receive a pension from the government if you live or work in the Netherlands. Your state pension age depends on your date of birth. See what your state pension age is here.

Retirement age

This is the age at which your StiPP pension starts. The standard age at StiPP is 67. The state pension age is currently lower than the retirement age at StiPP.

How much pension do you have?

You purchase a pension with your accrued pension benefits. The more pension benefits you accrue, the higher the amount you receive when you retire.

  1. Go to Mijn StiPP Pensioen
  2. Log in using your DigiD.
  3. Click on ‘Mijn pensioen’ in the menu on the left
  4. Under the heading ‘Wat u kunt bereiken op 67 jaar’ look at the amount on the right. This is your expected annual pension on your 67th birthday

Partner's pension?

If you want your partner to receive a pension if you die, you can include partner's pension. If you do not include the partner's pension, your own pension will be higher.

  • If you do not have a partner
Then you will decide not to include dependant’s pension.

  • If you do have a partner
Discuss what is best in your situation with your partner. Does your partner have a pension of their own, for example? Is he or she (much) younger than you or actually much older? Seek advice from a financial adviser if that will help. If you decide not to include the dependant’s pension, your partner must also sign the application form.

Who does StiPP consider to be your partner?

You were accruing pension benefits in the Basic Plan and

  • you are married
  • you have a registered partnership

You were accruing pension benefits in the Plus Plan and

  • you are married
  • you have a registered partnership
  • you are officially cohabiting and at the time you retire you have been living with your partner at the same address for a minimum of six months

Fixed or variable pension?
On your retirement date you make a definitive choice for a fixed or variable pension benefit You can read all about it here

Commutate pension

If your expected pension is less than €592.51 (2024) gross per year
You will receive a pension commutation offer from us. If you decide to accept it, StiPP will pay out your pension as a lump sum on your retirement date and you will not receive a very small amount each month. You do not have to do anything. You will automatically receive a letter from us six months before your 67th birthday.

If your expected pension is more than €592.51 (2024) gross per year

You cannot choose to have your pension paid out as a lump sum. You will receive a pension from StiPP each month.

You can see how high your expected pension is at Mijn StiPP Pensioen.

TO DO

When do you want to retire?

  • Standard StiPP retirement age
Your pension at StiPP starts when you are 67. If you want to have your pension start on your 67th birthday, you will automatically receive a letter or email from us when you can apply for your pension. You arrange it at Mijn StiPP Pensioen. You can read how to apply for your pension here

  • Early retirement
You can have your pension start up to five years before your state pension age.
