Questions if you are already retired

Are you already retired? And do you have questions about the new pension scheme? Read the answers to frequently asked questions:

What happens to my pension?
You will receive a monthly pension benefit from StiPP. This is a fixed amount for as long as you live. In the new pension scheme, your pension benefit will become a variable benefit. That means that it moves with the economy. As a result, your pension may change slightly every year. It can be higher or possibly lower. We have a reserve. In this way, we supplement your pension and prevent it from being lower as much as possible. Only in the special case that our reserve is empty, your pension benefit will be reduced. The chance that your pension will be lower is therefore much smaller than the chance that it will be higher.
My pension will be variable. What does that mean?
In the new scheme, your pension will be variable. This means that your pension moves every year in line with the economy and with the life expectancy of all people in the Netherlands. Your pension may be higher each year, but possibly also lower. This will be possible for the first time in 2027. Whether this happens depends on the investment results, the interest rate and the average life expectancy. Are the results positive? Then we will increase your pension. We have a reserve to prevent your pension from being reduced as much as possible. Therefore, the chance that it will go lower is much smaller than the chance that it will go higher.
What if I don't want to receive a variable benefit from StiPP?
Unfortunately, this is not a choice. Your pension benefit is automatically converted to a variable benefit.
Will my pension benefit change as of 1 January 2026?
The new scheme will take effect from 1 January 2026. We expect your pension to be higher then. You won't notice this until July 2026. Then you will receive a final calculation and a new monthly amount from us. Is your pension higher? Then you will also be paid the difference from the previous months.
I receive an allowance, will anything change now?
Do you receive an allowance in addition to your pension, for example a healthcare or rent allowance? Then your allowance amount may change in 2026. This is because your monthly pension benefit may increase or decrease as of January 1, 2026. You won't notice this until July 2026. Then you will receive a final calculation and a new monthly amount from us. Is your pension higher? Then you will also be paid the difference from the previous months.

Will you receive more pension? Then there is a chance that you will have to repay the excess allowance received in 2026. Are you receiving less pension? Then you may be entitled to more allowance. Check belastingdienst.nl/toeslagen for more information.
Will my pension be higher in the new scheme?
Yes, we expect that. When they transition to the new scheme, everyone will receive an extra amount in addition to their pension capital. For you, this means that your monthly benefit will be higher. We get the extra amount from our fund assets. This is called allocation. The amount of that extra amount depends on the financial situation of our fund assets on 1 January 2026.
Can my pension be lower?
The chance is small. In the new scheme, your pension will be variable. This means that your pension moves in line with the economy every year. Your pension can therefore be higher each year, but possibly also lower. This will be possible for the first time in 2027. StiPP has a reserve for setbacks, which we call the risk-sharing reserve. This allows us to absorb a decrease in your pension. Only in the special case that our reserve is empty, your pension benefit will be reduced. The chance that your pension will be lower is therefore much smaller than the chance that it will be higher.
How often will the amount of my pension be adjusted?
We adjust the amount of your pension once a year. This will only happen for the first time in 2027. You will receive a message in advance. If the economy is doing well, your pension will be higher. If things are not going so well, we will supplement your pension (as much as possible) from StiPP's reserves.
When will I know what I will receive in pension?
You will receive a personal message about your pension benefit in the autumn of 2025. In it you will find a first provisional calculation of the pension you will receive under the new scheme. You will receive the final calculation around July 2026.
Why will I not hear how much pension I will receive until July 2026?

This is because we will not have all the employers' data complete until the first months of 2026. Only then can we determine our fund assets. And if we know that, we can calculate how much everyone gets. That is why you will only hear in July how high your monthly amount will be.

Can I view my personal pension situation?
Yes, definitely. My StiPP Pension gives you insight into your pension or benefit at any time. That will remain the case. If you are retired and have insured a partner's pension, you will also see the amount of it.
What pension amount will I receive as of 1 January 2026?
In October or November 2025, you will receive a message in which you can see how much pension you have accrued in the current scheme. In this message you will also see a first calculation of your pension in the new scheme. The message contains the first calculation of your pension in the new scheme with data that was known to us on 1 July 2025. The amounts are therefore not yet final. You will receive a letter with the final calculation in July 2026.
Why don't I immediately receive a higher pension as of 1 January 2026?
Before 1 January 2026, we will not be able to know exactly what our fund assets will be on 1 January 2026. And only when we know what our fund assets are on this date can we calculate how much money we can add to your pension capital. We expect to have all the calculations ready from July 2026. You will then receive a letter with the final calculation of your pension. This calculation applies from 1 January 2026. If your pension increases, you will still receive your missed pension benefit retroactively in July 2026.
Will I still receive a lifelong pension?
When you retire, you will receive a pension from us every month for as long as you live.
Is it possible that I will receive less pension in the new pension scheme than in the current scheme?
Your pension benefit will be variable. This means that it moves with the economy. As a result, your pension may change slightly every year. It can be higher or lower. We have a reserve. In this way, we supplement your pension and prevent it from being lower as much as possible. Only in the special case that our reserve is empty, your pension benefit will be reduced. The chance that your pension will be lower is therefore much smaller than the chance that it will be higher.
What is allocation?
When everyone transitions to the new scheme, they will receive a one-off additional pension amount in their pension capital. We call this allocation. We get this amount from StiPP's fund assets. The amount of the amount therefore depends on StiPP's financial situation on 1 January 2026.
How is the additional amount (allocation) calculated for me?
When you retired, a small part of your pension capital was converted into a cost provision. In the new scheme, we distribute the money from this cost provision among all pensioners. As a result, you will receive an additional 4% in addition to your pension capital. Because we don't have to set aside as much money, you will receive an extra amount. We will add this to your pension capital once on 1 January 2026. The exact percentage you will receive depends on our fund assets on 1 January 2026.
Is the extra amount the same for everyone?
The percentage on the basis of which the extra amount is calculated is not the same for everyone: pensioners receive more because they get back money that they previously paid to the fund. We will add the extra amount to your pension capital once on 1 January 2026. This applies to everyone who has a pension with us. The exact percentage you will receive depends on our fund assets on 1 January 2026.
How much is this extra amount?
We get the extra amount from StiPP's fund assets. The amount depends on StiPP's financial situation on 1 January 2026.
What if the investments are going badly, won't I get an extra amount?
If investments are poor, StiPP's fund assets will decrease. It may be that there is no money left in our reserves. If that is the case, you may not receive an additional amount in your pension capital. But this is not what we expect.
What happens to my pension if I die?
If you die after your retirement date, your pension will stop. Your partner and/or children may then receive a survivor's benefit. The rules for the partner's pension after the retirement date will not change. For the payment of the orphan's pension, the fixed final age will be 25 years. At StiPP, this is now 18 years. The new pension scheme therefore offers financial support for children for longer when you die.
