Question of the month: When do I register my partner with StiPP?
Every month we answer a question in this section. These are questions that are often asked to our customer service employees. This month's question is:
When do I register my partner with StiPP?
Do you live in the Netherlands? Then we have good news: you don't have to register your partner with StiPP yourself.
If you marry or enter into a registered partnership in the Netherlands, your partner will be registered with the municipality. The municipality sends that information to us and we put your partner in our system.
What about if I live together?
If you are in the Plus scheme, have been living together for more than 6 months and have a cohabitation contract signed by a notary, your partner is entitled to a partner's pension.
The municipality does not automatically pass this on to us. But even then you don't have to register your partner with StiPP. Do you die and there is no partner in our system? Then StiPP always sends a letter to your next of kin. Your partner can still apply for the partner's pension.
And what if I live and/or am married abroad?
Then it is useful to register your partner with us. Send us a copy of the marriage certificate or cohabitation agreement and we will take care of the rest.
So you don't have to register your partner yourself if you live in the Netherlands. But it is allowed! Inform your partner in advance via My StiPP Pension.
